Solution-Focused Neuropsychiatric Coach
Are you ready to develop practical skills to support children, adolescents, and adults facing neuropsychiatric challenges? In everyday language, this is often referred to as “neurodiversity.” Become a solution-focused neuropsychiatric coach, or neurocoach, and learn effective guidance methods for working with clients and their relatives.
Practice-based methods improve clients’ functioning and increase their resources to tackle everyday challenges. You will also develop skills to promote your own well-being! The training is based on a comprehensive set of solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral interventions. These methods can be tailored to individual needs and combined with other treatment modalities or special educational support measures.
As a solution-focused neuropsychiatric coach, you will be well equipped to work with clients who have developmental neuropsychiatric disorders, such as autism spectrum disorders (ASD and former Asperger’s), ADHD, Tourette syndrome, learning difficulties, or developmental language disorder (DLD, formerly SLI). The methods are also suitable for individuals with a wide range of learning difficulties, intellectual disabilities, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), or mental health challenges. As a low-threshold treatment, these methods can also be applied to address aggressive behaviors (behavioral disorders), fears, and anxiety, as well as to support mental health and substance abuse rehabilitation clients.
In the training, you will learn quick and effective solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral methods that can be applied in the school environment, in social and health care and in the workplace. As a coach, you will be able to work with challenging clients and their networks. You can utilize the methods in:
- Motivating individuals and groups
- Challenging interaction situations
- Collaborating between home and school
- Client and supervisory work, development tasks, and work supervision
- Interdisciplinary meetings
- Promoting your own well-being
The key areas of the training include (see Relevant Guidelines):
- Individual Goals: The training is tailored to meet the client’s needs. Concrete goals related to daily management, studies, and relationships will be developed together.
- Active Support and Encouragement: The coach assists the client in achieving their goals, provides feedback, and encourages the discovery of new methods.
- Strengthening Motivation: Bringing the client’s motivation to the forefront is a key part of successful coaching, often making support for motivation an essential part of the process.
- Supporting the Client in Identifying Resources, Practices, and Solutions for Life Management Challenges: In coaching involved with children and adolescents, parental support is also considered, especially in situations where parents may have their own neuropsychiatric challenges. The coach can also visit schools or educational institutions to help address challenges related to the learning environment.
This training is intended for individuals working with children, adolescents, or adults receiving enhanced or special support. Participants can include:

In most cases a minimum requirement is a secondary degree in education, health, social services, or a corresponding basic qualification. Other suitable degrees or work experience may be accepted on a case-by-case basis, for example when the applicant has sufficient experience in these fields or is acting as a caregiver for a person with neuropsychiatric challenges. In such cases, the student will receive certification as a neuropsychiatric facilitator upon completion of the training.
